Based on random sampling of the NNNNN.com space, it seems there are approximately 1,200 NNNNN.com's available to be registered. This is based on 40 random samples of bulk searches of 500 random NNNNN.com's, with an average of 6 available per search. The margin of error is fairly low given the number of random searches. I hope to go through and get an exact count when I have the time.
I had a group of 658 random available NNNNN.com I found on 5/16, and as of today, only 501 are still available. 157 were registered, or 15.7/day.
Over the same time period, 399 NNNNN.com dropped, and 21 of those were not registered. So approximately 2.1 domains per day dropped over this time period. This represents a net decrease in available domains of 13.6/day.
If this pace continues, NNNNN.com's should be bought out in 88 days, or Sunday, August 21, 2011.
Of course, there is no reason to assume this pace will continue, perhaps these last 10 days saw much more NNNNN.com buying than usual, more/fewer drops than usual, who knows. But it will be interesting to see how the rate of registration and dropping continues in the days and weeks to come.
